Can I ask spatch, would you defend sexual promiscuity based on the argument that its part of our instincts?

Honest question, not a dig.

Yeah, it does have a ring of communism about it.
I genuinely believe that greed/selfishness isn't a fundamental part of human nature though, more a result of our situation, outlook on life.

Selfish genes, mate. I'm interested in how memetic selection pressures can counteract genetic ones in individuals, though.

I have absolutely no problem with sexual promiscuity as long as it isn't hurting anyone else.
And there are quite a few species in nature that will only have one mate for their entire lives.

well you can't be selective about evolution, can't say we should evolve past our desire for stuff like territory and food from where our selfish instincts come from, but then be okay with just following our primal instincts when it comes to sex.

What exactly is your problem with sex?
Sounds to me like you're bitter at people who get quite a bit, when you get none..

That wasn't very grown up.

Its a valid point, people seem to be very 'selective' about how evolved we are.

Complete misuse of the word "evolve" aside, territory holds us back as a species in a way that doggystyle never will.

Nah, it's If two people choose to have sex, I really can't see the problem with that, if it's not casing suffering to anyone else.

Keep all the resources to yourself, is going to be harmful to others.
It's totally different.

Plus most younger people just use the pill.

not everyone can afford contraception. even then a lack of education causes third world countries to rely on religious advice forbidding them unto the penalty of facing god's wrath.

My point is there are many ways to have sex without having children.
Just ask the members on this board that are in a sexual relationship and that haven't had any kids as a result...

The trend seems to be going more conservative to me. Not 'Conservative' but in a general sense. People are cutting down on what they buy and are thinking more about what they do.

There is a big fuss in America now about Obama going to the Notre Dame University when he is the most liberal President on abortion.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=97935

I think there is a trend but maybe its just me reassessing as I go along.

They are expecting 20,000 protesters to turn up at the weekend.

Yeah, but lots of people, especially younger people don't think like that, plus internet porn causes a distorted view of sex, especially when it comes to unprotected sex.

Whatsmore sex is more dangerous for women in the sense they are significantly more likely to find themselves in a horrible situation, which is probably why men have a more 'so what' attitude towards it, because we don't have to worry abour pregnancy, rape and the like.

This has nothing to do with the thread, dude.

I'm just expressing my opinion, I know it'll be belittled and not even thought about but hey ho.

Anyway the original point if flawed as if you get rid of money people will have to rely on their skills to get by, which will kill off a generation of art and media students.
