Good luck with that.

I'm reading Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. I have a history of disliking both these authors and slowly coming around to thinking they're alright. So far this book is alright but also rather frustrating at times.

Neverwhere (started it, didn't finish it - wasn't enjoying it.)
Stardust (took me a long time to get all the way through it, but ultimately thought it was okay, but the film was actually better.)
American Gods (Loved it. Quickly risen through the ranks to become one of my very favorite novels, despite, I thought, a disappointing resolution.)
Anansi Boys (decent enough, but a let down after Gods.)

I've read some of The Sandman too. Not much, but enough to think it was pretty good.

I'm looking forward to Coraline too. Creepy Smile

Neverwhere's the one set in the sewers, yeah?

i read Anansi Boys before American Gods and despite that, enjoyed it a bit more.

got two Sandman books. they're both really good but i think the Lucifer spin-offs are better.

Indeed, Neverwhere is the one he wrote because the Beeb fucked up his TV show or something. Either way I was not impressed.

I did like a lot of the stuff in Anansi Boys, but sometimes Gaiman likes to stop his story to go off on silly tangents. I don't mind it to a point, but mostly it takes me out of the narrative and pisses me off. It's why I couldn't stand Terry Pratchett for years.

i can understand that criticism, especially when it's directed at Pratchett. for some reason though, even if i'm not really following the story i just find myself enjoying....myself.

I do too, but sometimes I think it comes at the expense of actually telling the story properly.

In Good Omens, as an example, it opens with some daft Satanist nurses swapping some normal baby with the new born Anti-Christ. Unfortunately, the text is so flooded with rambling self-aware anecdotes about winking and celebrities and tea that after several re-reads I still couldn't work out exactly what had gone on.

Now we're further into the story and part of the plot is in thinking that the nurses botched the swap but my take from the text was that they had in fact carried it out, somehow.

It's thrown me completely, and I've pretty much resigned myself to just going with the flow and letting the nonsense envelop me.

I'm onto the second part of the book and bored already. I read insomnia which was great, and i heard it was the prequel to the dark tower series. but so far i'm not really into the gunslinger. Might just close it and read 4 past midnight instead.

I'm not sure that's much to look forward to. Wise and Phallic

I'm reading the Wizard of Oz as well and one I picked up called FIASCO about Wall Street but it's a bit heavy going.

Have you read the wicked trilogy yet? the musical fans don't like the books, but I thought the books were good. The first two at least.

It's fantasy specifically geared towards smart-arsed philosiphags. Enjoying it, but I imagine Narg would enjoy it even more.
